Incidentally, I see that UW is listed as using both 3 and 7 as grading systems. I thought letter grades have been phased out completely. Is that not the case?

This is mostly true. Officially, all grades at UW are percentages, but there is an official mapping from percentages to letter grades. That info is also in the undergrad / grad calendars, although the GPA conversion isn't for some reason.

Waterloo students can cross-register with/take classes at WLU, which issues letter grades. They appear as letters on transcripts and are converted to UW weights implicitly in your average using UW's weighting scheme.
